Sometimes everything that can go wrong does, and that often happens when you are doing your best to draw closer to God. Today is one of those days for me. I am exhausted and being met with every obstacle all at once. It's so bad, that even dropping the cap to my diet soda bottle feels like too much. Everything within me wants to give up. To throw in the towel. To run far away from this ramshackle day, and bury my head in my pillows. Hey, at least my cat likes me... I think.
So, what do you do when your day is BLEH? Honestly, I tapped out. I prayed and literally said, "Jesus, I can't, but you can. This is me tapping out and asking you to get in the ring for me." After saying that, aloud and to my husband, I tapped the table we were eating our lunch at, threw up my hands, and mentally gave all the crud up, which was bogging me down, to the one who could handle it all.
That's why Jesus says, "Come to me all who are weary and heavy burdened." He knew there would be days like this. He knew because He experienced days like this first hand. I don't know about you, but I, for one, am glad that I have Jesus on the other side of the ring, His hand outstretched just waiting for me to tap out. And when I finally do, He leaps over that rope, lands on his feet, and with a triumphant grin, stares down all the crazy I left behind. Thank God for His open hand.
